It tells you how a man’s internal flaws prove to be the fatal error in his quest for the supreme power of knowledge that will put him at par with the Gods. Mahapurohit Paravasuis conducting a mahayagna to please Rain God Indra to end ten years of severe drought. However, demons are unleased to disrupt the yagna at the final stage of important yagnas. The interesting thing is that these demons are nothing but the internal desires and flaws of Paravasu taking on worldly manifestations. Paravasu has sacrificed his personal life and left his wife Vishakha and his brother Aravasu in his quest to please the Rain God through the seven-year long yagna. As the chief priest, he has rivals in his father Raibhya (Mohan Agashe) who has been bypassed for the post due to his age and his cousin Yavakri who feels cheated out of his right by Raibhya. He is determined to prove his superiority over Paravasu at any cost. Yavakri has performed intense tapas for ten years and pleased Lord Indra to get the supreme knowledge. Equipped with this knowledge but blinded by his ego, Yavakri returns to teach Paravasu a lesson. He chooses to use his love for Vishakha as a weapon in his fight against Paravasu. Poor Vishaka is now living alone for seven years. Yavakri exploits her situation and lures her into his trap. He knows that Paravasu will be forced to abandon the yagna when he knows of Vishakhas infidelity. Paravasu’s brother Arvasu has no initiation to the brahmanical traditions though he is a Brahman.
